Our Renal Unit's every day clinical practice includes diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic renal disease and their complications. Renal Doctors and Nursing staff prepare patients with severe chronic kidney disease for renal replacement treatment or renal transplantation. Moreover, we take care of patients with severe, complicated essential or/and secondary hypertension. The Renal Unit's of the University Hospital consists of the Renal Ward, Hemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis, Plasmapheresis, the Outpatients Clinics and the laboratory. The Renal Ward (16 beds), started functioning on the 13th of December 1993. The Hemodialysis Unit (9 artificial kidney machines), started functioning on the 10th of February 1992. The Peritoneal Dialysis Unit (6 beds), started functioning on the 27th of May 1995. The Plasmapheresis Unit, functioning as part of the Hemodialysis Unit. The Renal Transplantation Unit started to function in January 2010 with a medical and nurse’s personnel from Nephrology and Surgical Departments of the University Hospital.
